WOOD DOES NOT FORGIVE TOO MUCH PRESSURE

Exterior wood in Kansas weathers on a schedule: the sun bleaches the surface fibers gray, humidity feeds mildew in the shaded boards, and every winter opens the grain a little further. Fences show it first along the ground line, decks show it on the traffic path and the north rail. Underneath that gray layer, most wood is still perfectly sound — it just needs the dead fiber and the organic growth taken off.

Wood is the least forgiving surface we work on. Too much pressure raises and furs the grain, etches soft cedar, and leaves permanent wand marks that no amount of stain will hide. We clean with a wood-safe cleaning solution and low pressure, working with the grain and board by board, then follow with a brightener that neutralizes the cleaner and pulls the wood back toward its natural tone rather than leaving it chalky.

Decks get the full assembly: boards, risers, stringers, railings, balusters, posts, skirting and the frequently ignored underside of the rail cap where mildew hides. Fences get both sides where access allows, because a fence cleaned only from your own yard looks unfinished from the street. Extra attention goes to the lower boards, where splash-back and soil contact concentrate the growth.

Composite and PVC decking get a manufacturer-appropriate cleaner that removes mildew from the embossed grain without hazing the cap layer, and pergolas, gazebos and playsets are handled with the same low-pressure approach.
